The accounting yard proposes to reduce the weight limit for the environmental bonus. The permissible weight could increase from 2,400 kg to 1,925 kg, which would exclude many electric vehicles from the bonus, potentially including the Y model.
After reducing support for electric vehicles, the government could re -tighten the capability criteria for the ecological bonus. It is a report of the Court published on January 9, 2025, which strongly indicates the idea of savings in the state budget. There are more than EUR 200 million savings at stake, which means that the government could take advantage of the opportunity.
Our auto-infos colleagues put their finger on these few lines that do not clarify about the future of the ecological bonus. But nothing has been done so far. The government has already reduced government support for electric vehicles. However, it is better to realize what can still be announced.
The limit is still different from other regulations
The ecological transition agency (ADEM) has been proposing this value of 1,925 kg for years. It is not a round number such as the current limit of 2,400 kg for a bonus or 2,000 kg for paid parking in Paris or a possible 1,900 kg of a penalty for electricity proposed senators. The whole lacks cohesion and global vision.
In addition, if such a weight was implemented for electric vehicles, it would be inconsistent to subsidize and tax. The great unknown this proposal remains: when could the government realize it? Nothing prevents him from doing so in the coming months.
According to the accounting court: ‘ While the support of the ecological transition of vehicles remains relevant, the current regime is not fully cohesive because it still prefers too heavy cars. »The message adds a little further: ‘ Removing the bonus on models weighing more than 1925 kg would therefore be consistent and efficient. »
Tesla model y in the viewfinder?
Reducing the permissible weight to 1,925 kg in order to be entitled to the bonus, the Tesly Model Y can reduce the access of this support. The current model y is approved for the following weights (except for options):
- Model Y Drive: 1 909 kg
- Model y long distance drive: 1,959 kg
- Model Y Long Range: 1 979 kg
- Model Y Power: 1,995 kg
The version of Performance and Long Autonomy is not bonus, because they are currently exceeding the price of € 47,000 (no discount). However, the High Autonomy Propulsion version would lose this privilege.

If the current Y Propulion model could still keep a bonus with new rules, it does not necessarily have to be the case of a redesigned model that was officially listed on January 10 in China. He could also find himself on the edge of the razor. On the Chinese Tesla website, this modified version is displayed at 1,921 kg. There may be differences in equipment between the Chinese version and the European version of the model. Therefore, it could exceed this fatal weight. Certain options, such as towing equipment or larger rims, will also exceed 1,925 kg.
It would be a really good way for the government to save money. Simply excluding Tesla Model Y would save several million euros per year.
1 925 kg: Weight that many family models overcome
If European manufacturers thought they had gone through the most difficult part with the ecological evaluation necessary to obtain a bonus, risk being disillusioned. Models that have received ADEME approval with ecological scores (although their price can exceed 47,000 euros without discounts) would no longer pass due to their weight:
- Volkswagen ID.3 (except a small battery)
- Volkswagen ID.4
- Volkswagen ID.5
- Volkswagen ID.7
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz pure
- ŠKODA ENYAQ IV and ENYAQ coupe (except a small battery)
- CUPRA BORN (except a small battery)
- Audi Q4 e-tron
- BMW i4
- BMW IX1
- BMW IX2
- Ford Explorer (except a small battery)
- Ford Capri
- Mercedes eqa
- Mercedes EQB
- Opel Grandland
- Peugeot E-3008
- Peugeot E-5008
- Volvo EC40
- Volvo XC40
- Volvo EX30* (double power version): This model is not yet eligible, but it could soon become eligible.

This choice would be a good way for the government to significantly save on an envelope dedicated to an ecological bonus. This would make the support system even more complicated, which has been difficult to understand for customers since the use of environmental score.
